GallaMarrs family

Welcome to our webpage. My name is Dr. Tracy Marrs. I am a professional educator, mythologist, researcher, and entrepreneur and mostly the voice on this site. My husband is Duane Gallagher – fix-it guy extraordinaire. He can build or fix almost anything. Together with our two children, we are the GallaMarrs family of edutainers.

Duane builds, I paint, Steven makes YouTube videos, and Julie does photography and editing – we all like to create and we all like to teach. Not to brag, but we’re pretty fun too. Which is why I call us edutainers. We enjoy sharing what we know and teaching (EDU) and (TAINER) for entertainment – we also love to have fun, be creative, and entertain while teaching.

My professional experience

When I was in high school, I had my first paying job in education; planning and running a children’s program with a friend for a winter camp, but I didn’t become a formal educator until 2004. My first teaching job was on the Soboba Indian Reservation. I taught Reading, English, and Journalism classes and also created and led the after school creative writing and arts program called Creative Natives. I especially loved working with the high school students.

Once I had my first child, I decided I wanted to spend less time at work. (I often went to games and other events beyond the school day.) I began working at a local community college teaching academic reading skills to adults. It was here, I found I also love working with adults.

When my children became school-aged, I began volunteering at their school. During the pandemic, I began working as an Intervention substitute and now fill in whenever I am needed and my schedule allows. Also during the pandemic, I taught Education classes to graduate students and found I preferred working with undergraduates.

So that takes me to where I am now. I tutor, substitute teach on the mountain and in Highland, and I work construction jobs with my husband but my passion is sharing knowledge – especially in the form of stories.

My education

I have been in school the majority of my life. After graduating from Colton High School, I majored in English at California Baptist University and graduated after attending classes at CBU, RCC, and briefly CalState San Bernardino.

It took me 8 years to complete my bachelor’s degree in English Literature and move to Redlands University for a teaching credential and Masters degree in Education – Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading.

Finally, I began my doctoral program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2013. At Pacifica, I earned my Masters and PhD in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology.

The title for my dissertation is “Transformational Literacy in Education” and it can be found with my other writing on my separate more personal page:
